Rice Pilaf and the Word Ya'll

If you have ever had a meal at my or my mom's house, you probably experienced the delectable deliciousness {is that a word?} that is my mom's rice pilaf. This is unlike any rice pilaf you will ever taste. It is not dry, does not have vegetables nor is it pilafy {now I know that is not a word, but I used it anyway, because I can, because it's my blog} in any way, shape or form. If there was a way to allow the taste to osmose through my computer to yours, believe me, I'd do it! Unfortunately, I do not currently have a picture of "said pilaf" on my table, but believe me, it's been there, probably 100 times since I've had my own table. So...I thought I'd share some of this non-pilafy {I said it again} goodness with you.

Melt 1 stick of margarine in a sauce pan. Then add 1 cup of FINE egg noodles {you probably didn't know they exist, but you can usually find them in the Asian section near the rice at the store} to the melted margarine. Stir them around over medium heat until they are golden brown. Now this is where all of the flavor comes from, add 4 and 1/2 cups of chicken broth and 2 cups of white rice. Stir until everything is nice and mixed and then allow to boil. Once you have a nice boil, lower your heat and put a lid on the sauce pan. Simmer until the rice is soft but still moist. I can taste it now! Pure deliciousness! This is a great side paired with anything! When it is just the three of us, I generally half this recipe and still have left-overs! ENJOY!

Now, about the word, "ya'll." If you are from Michigan, the word "ya'll" does not exist. Well, I have news for you, it does exist, and is very much alive in the South! After living in North Carolina for 2.5 years, I realized that people use this word, ALL THE TIME! I also realized that it doesn't take long to start saying this word after hearing it just a few times. So, here is my rendition of...."You know you lived in North Carolina when you...."

Exhibit A: You know you lived in North Carolina when... you are subbing 6 months later, in Michigan, and you ask your students... "are ya'll bein' ugly?" {translation for you Michigan folk: "boys and girls, are you saying mean things to each other?"}

Exhibit B: You know you lived in North Carolina when... you are in Michigan 6 months later and you practically get in a "wreck" when you see this...

and realize Happy Hour is almost over!

Exhibit C: You know you lived in North Carolina when... after you have moved back to Michigan, are on the phone with a friend from North Carolina, 6 months later, and you revert back to your "southern accent" and use words like soda, wreck, and "ya'll."

Case in point!

Have a good weekend YA'LL!
