My Birthday

I had an awesome birthday yesterday! It's funny because when I was little, my birthday was such a huge day! I couldn't sleep the night before and didn't want to go to sleep on the actual day in fear that it would end! Well, as you get older...I'm not saying I'm old...but, as you get older, the big day isn't so...well...big anymore. It's still an exciting day, you get cards and gifts and people call you and leave you sweet messages, but it doesn't come with all of the excitment as it did when I was a kid.

However, yesterday was a very special day for me, as it was my first birthday being a mom. I have so much to be truly thankful for. This past year was such a CRAZY year for our family. We had a child, Stephen finished seminary, I quit my job, we moved to MI, we bought a house, and I have the fully time job of being a stay at home mom. All of these things were great, emotional, crazy life changes. I would say I had one of the best years of my life though. Sofia is such a huge blessing and brings so much joy to my life that I can't imagine my life without her right now. I also have the most amazing husband ever! He is such a blessing to me and I am so thankful that he is willing to work VERY, VERY hard to support our family and to make it possible for me to stay home with our daughter. He is such a Godly man and is a wonderful spiritual leader. I am truly blessed to have him as my husband.

Anyways, enough with the gushy stuff. As I was saying, I had a great day yesterday. I was able to have some "me" time as I like to call it while Stephen's mom watched Sofia so I could go shopping and out for lunch with some great friends! We went to The Grand Rapids Brewing Company, and boy did they spoil me for lunch! For your birthday, you get one of their pilsner glasses with a 10 dollar of your next visit as well as a gigantic piece of delcious chocolate cake drizzled with chocolate and caramel. Oh my goodness was it good! After shopping for a while, I headed back home to get my baby. (On a sidenote, while shopping, I decided to branch out and purchase a pair of skinny jeans! I don't know if I'm going to keep them yet, they are soooo not me, but we'll see! I'll let you know what I end up deciding.) Anyways, as I was saying, I headed to get Sofia and got to open some presents from Stephen's parents. I got a small digital camera and some cool cookbooks! I am super excited about the camera! I have been wanting one b/c the camera we purchased before Sofia was born is a huge digital SLR...which by the way...I LOVE, but it is so stinken big to lug around. There are so many times when I wished that I could've just thrown it in the diaper bag, but the bag for it is bigger than my diaper bag. I forsee lots of pictures being taken now with my new camera! :)

After we got home, we left again to go get some dinner. We went to Texas Roadhouse, one of my favorites, and because it was my birthday, I got a free appetizer! After eating that, and my huge meal, I was soooo full. Like, the full you are after you've eaten like a whole cow, and your stomach starts grumbling and you have to wear your pants unbuttoned for the rest of the week. But, in the spirit of it being my birthday, what did we do after we stuffed ourselves silly, we headed to Coldstone of course! Ice cream is one of my favorite desserts, so I was pretty excited! We grabbed some ice cream and headed home. It was such a great day and I loved being able to celebrate my first birthday being a mom with my awesome little family! Friday, we will head to Northville to celebrate with my parents and brother and sister. I'm really looking forward to that as well!

Thanks everyone for making my day extra special! :)
